If you have diabetes, pricking your finger to test your blood glucose levels can be painful and expensive.  Test strips cost can range from $570 to $1,750 per year!

There are new devices available to the market to help track glucose levels that allow you to control diabetes symptoms better, and help manage potentially life-threatening complications.

According to Shop Smart Magazine (a subsidiary of Consumer Reports Magazine), the best overall meter was the Acc-check Compact Plus.  They said it was consistently accurate, with the capability of saving up to 50 test results.  Its bulky design was a negatives to this machine, and the expensive cost of the test strips.

If you want fast and small, look at the Trueresults meter made by Walgreens.  It gives quick results with date and time stamps and requires only a small drop of blood.

The best bargain meter was the Relion Confirm from Walmart.

If you use blood-glucose meters, check with your insurance company on their coverage and reimbursement on meters.  Also, investigate the cost of the strips before making a choice.  Those two facts may influence your final choice.
